October is here, and that means it’s Youth Justice Action Month - #YJAM2023!
Youth Justice Action Month is an annual month-long campaign where advocates come together to raise awareness and inspire action on behalf of young people impacted by the justice system.
YJAM is powered by our colleagues at the Coalition for Juvenile Justice (CJJ), and National Juvenile Justice Network (NJJN), and youth justice advocates across the country.
#YJAM23 Theme: “Justice Is________”
Our theme, “Justice Is____.” gives impacted youth, families and allies an opportunity to collectively imagine new possibilities for systems of support, healing and restorative justice.
We can only create a true vision of justice, equity, and opportunity when we hear directly from those who are most impacted by the systems we are fighting to change. That means centering directly impacted youth voices in any transformations we advocate for.
Join us as we answer the call to center the experiences and leadership of youth and families impacted by the legal system. What does justice look like to you? Let us know in the comments, and follow us all month long for #YJAM2023!

🌟 Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! 🌟
From September 15 to October 15, we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the history and achievements of Hispanic and Latinx people in the United States. At Pacific Southwest MHTTC, we seek to illuminate the diversity of mental health experiences and systemic barriers within these communities, including for those who identify as Afro-Black, Indigenous, and more. We’re excited to highlight the work of the National Hispanic & Latino MHTTC – a national population-focused Center and member of the MHTTC Network whose mission is to provide high-quality training and TA for those serving Hispanic and Latinx communities in behavioral health, treatment, and recovery.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, our MHTTC Network has compiled a list of resources and events from our Centers to support the mental health and wellbeing of members of these communities. Take a moment to explore and share the resource page with your community!

Join us Thursday, September 28 at 3 p.m. PT!
Youth and family members of those currently and previously incarcerated are often called “hidden victims.” Incarceration can profoundly impact families, who may experience ambiguous loss and deep disruptions during and after their loved one’s detention. The mental health consequences for incarcerated individuals can be compounded by the damage experienced by their families.
The Pacific Southwest MHTTC team is honored to partner with Dads MOVE to hold a special 90-minute session to foster learning about how to assist the families of the incarcerated. This session invites space for Q&A and dialogue and will highlight this organization’s approaches, models, and interventions that are responsive to the needs of the families of incarcerated loved ones.
